Assessing the Business Value of IT for the Small to Medium Enterprise

TORONTOMississauga 16 June 2009 NegenIT Corporation, a leading consulting and professional services company today announced a new entry-level review service that offers business executives a high-level insight into their IT operations.  Developed for the small- to medium-sized enterprise, the IT Health Check program will provide a Qualified Professional Opinion of the effectiveness and efficiency of the IT function. The Health Check Report will provide information needed to empower executives to make changes required in today’s uncertain conditions.  NegenIT’s IT Health Check (ITHC) program is a straightforward, cost-effective service to assess the business value of the IT department.

IT is the engine of a modern company.  Each step of a company’s engagement with customers and suppliers depends on IT in some way, and management relies on the information provided to guide decisions.  They wonder whether IT changes being considered will contribute towards the profitability of the company, or will they just drain resources? Most executives do not have the in-depth IT understanding to assess the true effectiveness of their IT function, and they are wondering, “How can I find out?”

NegenIT’s IT Health Check is built on the extensive experience of Executive Consultants who developed the comprehensive assessment models of the IT Assessment Suite (ITAS).  This, and real-world IT Management experience, has honed the insight and instincts, which guide the investigation. As a result, the business management team will receive a subjective Qualified Professional Opinion on the state of IT health. And, they receive this within days.

NegenIT IT Heath Check service looks into the:

  • Corporate Culture - Identify the corporate culture, e.g. “Consensus”, “Blame”, “Reward”, “Risk-Averse”
  • Decision Making:  What is the IT decision-making and priority setting process?
  • Reporting:  What IT reporting is in place?  How accountable is IT to the business?
  • Skills Profiles: What skills are required and employed?  Is there a skills development process?
  • Policies, Processes and Procedures:  Are PP&Ps formal and documented? Are they effective?
  • Standards and Practices:  Are there formally documented S&Ps?  Are they followed?
  • Tools:  Does the organization invest in productivity tools for IT?  What value do they provide?

“NegenIT IT Health Check is what we were looking for”, say Anne Martin, President of United Van Lines (Canada) Ltd.  “Within a very short time NegenIT was able to identify the major challenges and provide the advice and recommendations to improve our operational effectiveness.”  Martin further states, “NegenIT’s IT Health Check program is ideal for CEO’s and Presidents who need to quickly get an objective view of their IT, its people, resources and effectiveness.”

The NegenIT IT Health Check provides a snapshot — a fast and non-disruptive review that delivers a high-impact result. It gives executives a summary of what works and what could work better.  The IT Health Check is the first step in the process of gaining control over IT and ensuring it delivers the results the business needs to be more profitable.

Martin Hockham, NegenIT’s Assessment Practice Partner explains, “We find clients in a quandary, wondering which way to turn when it comes the mysterious subject of IT.  We provide insight and clarity, leaving them with an improved understanding, increased transparency, and recommendations to truly change the ‘rules of the game’ when it comes to getting the most from IT.” Hockham adds, “The report’s recommendations becomes the basis for plans to update IT practices and procedures, and can be the baseline against which annual reviews can be scheduled.”

Unveils New Information Technology Assessment Suite (ITAS)

Suite of assessment services to evaluate the effectiveness of the Information Technology and Communications Department

TORONTO— 9 September 2008 NegenIT Corporation, a leading consulting and professional service company today announced the introduction of a new suite of consulting services designed to objectively view the effectiveness and efficiency of businesses’ IT departments. The new Information Technology Assessment Suite (ITAS), based on extensive experience recommending and implementing improvements to IT operations, will identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness, lower costs, and increase margins.

Emphasizing a holistic approach and built on NegenIT’s deep experience, the new ITAS program will help companies navigate through complex challenges of delivering services that meet the needs of both the business units and their customers. As companies re-invent their products and services to meet the realities of the market, they must assess their IT operations processes and programs to meet those needs. NegenIT’s ITAS can analyze the challenges that constrain new revenue opportunities, customer service and operational efficiencies.

NegenIT’s new consulting suite assesses the customer’s IT department’s “current state” and compares this against Industry Best Practices. At the core of NegenIT’s ITAS service is a unique skill set built on experience, intellectual property, methodologies and processes, business maturity models that encapsulate Best Practices

The ITAS program focuses on three areas:
  • IT Service and Support Management: Assesses the processes and procedures for Change, Incident, Problem, Asset and Configuration, Financial, Capacity, Vendor, Release, Customer, Availability, Security and Service Level Management.
  • Disaster Resilience: Assesses the companies’ ability to recover from an IT disaster, especially interruptions to service that is less then worst case.
  • Application Development and Delivery: Assesses the performance of programming new applications systems; Project Management, Testing and QA; User Communication; Education and Training.

ITAS helps companies by assessing their IT departments to review their operations, disaster resilience and application development and delivery, then lays the foundation for changes that will decrease risk of service interruption. Experience shows that the extent of Best Practice implementation correlates strongly with lower IT service and support costs.

“The market is changing and companies must be competitive. They must adapt and change to meet the needs of their customers,´ says Bill Hyndman a Partner and ITIL Lead at NegenIT. “The ITAS program provides a unique approach to assessing a company’s IT operational effectiveness.”
