| Are you ready? Have you tested your plan? |
An IT Disaster is an interruption to IT services which cannot be recovered by normal IT processes for a duration longer than the business-defined Maximum Acceptable Outage. IT Disasters have many causes, the most common being Hardware and Systems Malfunctions (44 to 56%) and Human error (26 to 32%). Natural disasters account for less than 3%.
Today most IT environments spend their time reacting to day-to-day issues and supporting ongoing operations. But what happens when the servers, routers desktop start to fail? What happens when network connections are severed? What happens when the web servers or firewall servers fail and cannot be recovered in time to meet operational requirements?
Is there a plan to recover or will there be a scramble to recover IT functionality? |

Common Industry Challenges
Traditional planning for IT disasters is restricted to server back-ups and off site storage of data base information. What happens when workstations fail, servers, routers and wireless access points are inoperable? Are these disasters? At what point is a disaster declared? If so what is the plan? Many organizations don’t have a response plan because: IT DRP is still viewed as an unnecessary cost to protect against a remote risk. IT DRP is seen as a non-productive investment (does not contribute to increased corporate earnings). IT DRP leads to increasing IT costs – in fact most efforts are to decrease IT budgets. IT is becoming more complex and there are more opportunities for failure. This makes IT DRP look even more expensive. IT centers are considered cost centers and are staffed accordingly. The skills to manage and recover legacy systems are retiring and the information needed to create IT DRP for these systems has left the organization. Most IT planning is to support the data on the servers, not the operations of the business. |
NegenIT Does:
At NegenIT we listen and learn about the IT requirements for your business and develop an effective plan, program and a process that prepares you for an IT disaster. The IT DRP will:
Maintain critical IT functions to support customer contact and ensure sales orders and services can be fulfilled. Establish an IT DRP response team and recovery processes. Develop different response levels for each type of IT disaster to minimize cost and maximize results. Reduce waste and duplication in the recovery process. Ensure all IT and business changes are reflected in the recovery plans. Provide a comprehensive method for identifying and assessing risks to the IT environment. Identify Risk Mitigations (ways to reduce the probability or the impact of risk) and Contingencies (measures to have in place in the event of a disaster which will greatly reduce recovery timeframes). NegenIT is your partner to develop the plan, so when a disaster happens staff and resources are ready. |
